Who am I ?
Andy Kidd, CMC, MA(Hons), ACQ
I am a Registered Civil Marriage Celebrant
(registration number A8138), authorised by
the Attorney General of Australia to conduct
weddings. I belong to the Alliance of Celebrants Queensland Inc. I have a Master of Arts in Social Anthropology.
I live in Tomewin, in the Border Range between
Mount Warning and the Currumbin valley, right
between New South Wales and Queensland.
My range for weddings covers from Byron Bay
to Brisbane, encompassing the Gold Coast
and northern New South Wales.
I am a graduate of Social Anthropology (Master
of Arts with Honours) from the University
of Edinburgh, Scotland, where part of my
study was into the range of rituals and rites
of passage across cultures. This taught me
that there are universal human behaviours
which give symbolic importance to events:
we call them ritual and ceremony, and they
speak to our collective unconscious via archetypes.
For example, in every culture rituals include
three stages represented by physical space,
actions and words:
First the participants symbolically leave
the world of normal life by crossing a threshold;
They then enter the liminal stage where transition
occurs (such as becoming a married couple);
And finally they re-enter the normal world,
again across a threshold back into a new
life.
This common structure can be seen in the
spacial lay-out of temples and churches,
in the theatre of a play, in the words of
a rite. This is the most basic structure
of ritual and on it we can build something
memorable and significant.
Part of my role as your celebrant is to offer
advice in constructing an original rite to
suit your unique needs and wishes, one which
can impart significance to your wedding day.
I have travelled extensively through Africa,
Europe and Asia, where I have been able to
observe a wide variety of cultural expression.
I also have over twenty years' of experience
in holistic development: I am a Zero Balancer,
Yoga Instructor and Meditation teacher. Click
